In 1996, after a generous donation from local entrepreneur and philanthropist Leonard Lawson, Pikeville Medical Center opened the Leonard Lawson Cancer Center, the first comprehensive cancer treatment center in Eastern Kentucky. Thanks to Leonard Lawson’s generosity and vision, PMC is known statewide as a cancer center committed to offering patients treatment options not offered elsewhere in the region.

Because Eastern Kentucky has significantly high rates of cancer, Pikeville Medical Center continues to invest in state-of-the-art equipment and treatment options. Donations help make this possible, and in turn create healthier communities. Your gift can make a difference.

As a full-service cancer center, the LCC can provide radiation therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy and surgical oncology. The LCC spans three floors within the hospital: radiation oncology, an infusion treatment area, clinic and an oncology pharmacy. Here, patients can truly experience comprehensive care. With two linear accelerators (one of which was grant funded), CT scanners (grant funded), Xoft Skin eBx therapy and expert staff, patients receiving radiation can do so close to hope. With a newly renovated infusion treatment area, patients receiving chemo can do so in a comforting space! Access to clinical trials makes the LCC stand out from other centers in the region.
